Come hang out as I build my Formula 1600! Right now I’m putting on a lower sidepod so we can figure out how to run the coolant piping, then refurbishing some suspension arms.

A personally addressed note would be cool.

My record is 6 weeks to design and build a racecar from scratch. (Ok it was a team of 15 of us) Can you top that?

Heres the timeline we worked on:

Nice one, I always like to see a FSAE post on here.
Our record (not really proud of it) is bare frame to driving in 9 days, with a disappointingly small amount of design work done already.

We are actually Formula Hybrid which is an offshoot of FSAE. This was us really getting fed up with our old car which never ran right and was just a poor design to begin with. The entire concept behind this car was to have a simple car that we could have to compete with in 2016 and to use as a vehicle which would always be running and driving for fundraising and recruiting purposes. This year we are probably going to take the time to create a really thought out design to try for a perfect score (we finished second by 40 points with this design).

Well close enough. We have looked into doing hybrid and might end up doing electric.
But yeah, racecar is hard.

This car was an electric where the previous car was hybrid. Building a hybrid in 6 weeks would be impossible without simply transplanting an existing powertrain into a new chassis. We are debating possibly switching into FSAE-Electric though my vote is to do a new hybrid powertrain design in the fall and then build a chassis around that in the spring. The big problem with the old car was that the chassis was designed without a specific powertrain in mind meaning that the solutions we tried never fit properly.

Oh yeah that would never work really well.

I don’t think I can beat that. It’s only two of us, but at least we don’t have to design it from scratch!

It’s a mess but, strangely I know more or less where everything is!
